why is buying a new computer so hard
Gah! So I’ve needed a new computer for years now, and I finally decided that I can’t wait any longer. There are too many things my old, slow computer can’t do, and I’m sick of it restarting on me all the time without warning.
Problem is I have no clue what I would need in order to do what I want to do or what a good price would be for all of that. All I know is I prefer PCs to Macs. Here are some things I want on my new computer:
Video Editing Software - All I’ve ever had the chance to use was Windows Movie Maker, and while it’s nice for a free program, there were so many things I wanted to do but couldn’t. For example, I want to play two clips at the same time, one overlapping the other - the only way I’ve found to accomplish this is through a fade. I want to be able to slow things down and speed things up without being limited to double or half speed. I want to be able to play scenes in reverse without a ton of hassle.
I’ve looked up stuff like Sony Vegas and such, but they’re so expensive! I’m willing to pay what I need to in order to get the effects I want, but I don’t know if there are cheaper options out there that will allow me the same creative freedom. I don’t need to be able to do some of the ultra super fancy editing that a lot of AMVs and the like have, but I don’t know what the “next step up” from WMM would be.
“Artsy Stuff” - Real technical, I know. I’ve used Adobe Illustrator, and I love it, but I’ve never liked Photoshop. A friend of mine has recommended some different, cheaper options to me, though, so I’ll be looking into Corel Painter, ArtRage, and maybe PaintTool SAI (as that seems a popular choice on dA). I also am looking into a tablet - I’ve never had one, and I find this extremely sad. That same friend recommended an intuos4, and since both she and her boss use them and highly recommend them, I think I’m leaning toward that. I still want Illustrator, though - she mentioned AI CS3, so I’ll be looking into that as well.
Playing HD Videos - Maybe this is fairly standard now, I don’t know, but all I know is that I’m sick of videos only working in 480p or lower!
BLEH. So many things to think about. I really get nervous and fret about large purchases, so I’m having a slight mental breakdown right now. ^_^;;
Anyone know anything about computers? :P
